About Reverse Trick-Or-Treating

The inspiration for Reverse Trick-or-Treating rests on the belief that the simple act of one person saying to another "There's a problem. There's a solution. Let's do something" can be very powerful. And if a child says this to an adult – it's doubly powerful. Further, we believe that such acts will demonstrate to the large corporations, and to public officials, that people are paying attention, people care, and they want action. We’d like to thank Global Exchange who has worked hard with Equal Exchange and other allies to create the Reverse Trick-or-Treating campaign, a fun, easy way to raise awareness of the issue in your community and promote the Fair Trade alternative.

How it Works

The goal of the campaign is for trick-or-treaters nationwide to distribute informational cards, each with a piece of Fair Trade chocolate, to as many households as possible. Last year we were able to reach 45,000 households. This year we think we can, with your help, reach 200,000 homes!

  • Your group (school, congregation, etc.) signs up using the online form below.
  • You indicate how many informational postcards and Fair Trade chocolates you would like to distribute in your community.
  • We’ll ship to you the cards and chocolate to arrive by mid-October. (You'll need to complete the sign up form below and then an order for where you'll need to pay $7.50 for shipping)
  • Your group organizes families or other volunteer trick-or-treaters who would like to participate. If you have 20 participating trick-or-treaters and ordered 200 cards, then each child would take 10 cards with them on Halloween night .
  • They would offer one card to each household they visit. The participants should be organized so as to avoid distributing multiple cards to the same household.

**NOTICE**

THANK YOU

Due to overwhelming nationwide interest in the Reverse Trick-or-Treating campaign we have closed the sign-up portal a little early.

We're very excited that hundreds of groups have signed up to help educate their communities about the twin problems of forced child labor and poverty in the cocoa industry, and to introduce the Fair Trade alternative to the neighbors.

If you have already signed up you will receive an e-mail on Thursday, October 2nd, with further instructions about how to complete the process so that we may ship to you your Reverse Trick-or-Treating cards and chocolate minis.

If you are still interested in participating as an individual household (not a group) you have until October 13th to sign up via the Global Exchange-operated site: www.ReverseTrickorTreating.org

At www.ReverseTrickorTreating.org you can also find other ways to get involved this Halloween, such as using some of the Fair Trade/Halloween teaching materials offered by Global Exchange.
